For the lantern project, you must create a function vessel that includes a light source in some way. This project has the following requirements:

  • Your lantern must be functional. It must be able to express light in an interesting/innovative way.
  • Your lantern must be able to hold a light source.
  • Your lantern must have a creative design.
  • Your lantern must show a knowledge of hand building techniques as well as craftsmanship.

Not sure where to begin? Check out Google or Pinterest for inspiration. Be sure that you are only using the images for jumping off points and you are not stealing someone else’s work. *Search terms: ceramic candle holder, ceramic lantern, etc*

I do not have many images of student work but I did find this image of Collin’s Frog from last year. He carved the eyes out so they light up when a candle is placed below it.

I can not wait for you lantern to be completed so I can add your images here.

Here are some videos to help you get started with your build:

Here is a nice video explaining how to use a punch. I do have a few different sized punches available.
