Ceramic Houses

The challenge: Build a ceramic house. The design is completely up to you.


  • Build a stable structure resembling some sort of dwelling.
  • The structure must include cut-outs (these can be in the form of windows or doors).
  • The structure must be hollow, walls should only be 1/2 inch thick, tops.

Check out the work of John Brickels for inspiration.

***Hint: You will want to use slabs to build your house. If you can roll your slabs and let them sit out for a few minutes before trying to put them together.***

Anchor Standard 8: Construct meaningful interpretations of artistic work.  a. Construct meaningful interpretations, supported by evidence, of an artwork or collection of works through describing and analyzing feelings, subject matter, formal characteristics, artmaking approaches, contextual information, and key concepts.
