Use paper mache to create a mask or an animal head. Not sure what I mean? Check out Miranda and Taylor’s project from last year.
The first step is to create an armature for your piece. An armature is basically a sculpture’s skeleton. You can build your armature out of cardboard, foam core, or even found materials. Miranda and Taylor used a balloon for theirs. Next, you will cover your armature with paper mache.
To paper mache:
- cut/rip newsprint into 1-2 inch strips
- dip strips in glue/water mixture
- place on armature
Here are a couple more awesome masks from last year.
- cardboard, foam core, found objects for armature
- Elmer’s glue
- container for dipping
Sketching your idea first is advised for all sculptures.
